Western Propel Fund

A Milestone for Western University

A Milestone
for Western University

Building on the success of the Western Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship, powered by Ivey, the Propel Fund is the next step in supporting Western entrepreneurs.

Established in 2026, the Western Propel Fund enables the growth of high-potential Western-founded companies across a broad range of industries. The Fund is the result of a partnered investment from Western University, the Ivey Business School and the Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship through the generous support of donors.

The Fund will enable up to six investments of $150,000 annually along with comprehensive support and mentoring for portfolio companies through the Morrissette Institute. Investments will be available to high-growth companies operating in any industry to ensure broad support for all Western alumni.

The launch of the Fund cements the University’s commitment to entrepreneurs. This annual capital investment will not only create economic benefits in the region but will also solidify Western University as a national hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Eligibility

The intent of the Fund is to support early-stage companies founded by Western entrepreneurs. The Fund will invest in companies as follows:

  • At least one of the company’s founders must have a tie to Western including student, faculty, staff or alumni.

  • Companies can operate in any industry with any business model.

  • Pre-revenue companies are eligible if they can demonstrate strong market validation.

  • Companies must have previously raised less than $1 million in investment.

  • Companies with IP developed at Western do not have to assign the IP to Western to be eligible.

  • Companies must have pitched at Morrissette’s Demo Day, which happens twice a year.

Western Propel Fund

Our Process

To engage with the Fund, every company must apply and be selected to pitch at the Demo Day hosted twice a year. Upon completion of Demo Day, formal due diligence will be conducted on each company.

To further Western University’s education mandate, the Propel Fund will partner with student clubs on campus to empower students to complete the formal due diligence under the guidance of experienced investors. The investment activities of the Fund will be governed and decided by the Investment Committee. The due diligence reports will be presented to the Committee for final decisions. Investment Committee members will have a tie to Western and strong investment experience.
